“An intellectual? Yes. And never deny it. An intellectual is someone whose mind watches itself. I like this, because I am happy to be both halves, the watcher and the watched. ‘Can they be brought together?’ This is a practical question. We must get down to it. ‘I despise intelligence’ really means: ‘I cannot bear my doubts.’”

“People think that beauty opens doors, but it opens doors to cliff edges.”
I recently discovered an incredible movement on Instagram by StyleLikeU. I searched the longer videos on YouTube and was blown away. The videos are a concept created by a mother-daughter team leading a movement that empowers people to accept and express their true selves. Last month, they began their foray of expanding What's Underneath to all corners of the earth by taking the project to Los Angeles.
I've watched most of the videos they've done for the project. My eyes were opened to the struggles of other women: I connected to their stories, became inspired by their insight, and learned lessons from their words. Almost every video brought me to tears. I beg of you to watch as many as you have time for. Both men and women can learn from these individuals and their life stories.
Check out their YouTube channel for many more #WhatsUnderneath videos.

Coachella 2016 Mood Board
2016 wristbands just arrived! I'm very excited for this year's line up, per usual. This will be my 4th Coachella... what a spoiled brat. I got sick in 2012 during my first year, but still had a great time with my boyfriend at the time. The last two years I went with a group of close friends and stayed for free (again, what a spoiled brat) at La Quinta (Thanks Kirs <3). Both years with friends were incredible. You pregame and get on the bus in groups, but in the crowds, you're quite quickly split into groups of 2. When you have a buddy that's on your same wavelength, it makes choosing what stage to go to, etc so carefree.
Rob and I are VIP this year which will make for a different and even better time. Rob is also a massive Coachella veteran. He is even more of a spoiled brat than I am and has gotten his VIP wristbands for free every year (his fam used to own part of the polo fields that Coachella is held on or something).
I get very stressed out about what I'm going to wear each day to the festival. It isn't just about making a statement, it's about being extremely comfortable in whatever I'm going to wear. ACCESSORIZING TO MAKE YOUR OUTFIT IS THE ANSWER. Like you already know, Indio is a desert which means it is scorching hot during the day and most-likely freezing and windy at night. I've been successful in the past of making sure I know what the weather is going to be like so I don't find myself miserably too hot or too cold once I get onto the grounds. This doesn't mean I haven't had to buy a Coachella sweatshirt bc of the windstorms (I don't wear sweats... $65 down the drain). Ugh.
Anyway, we are going weekend 2 (April 22-24th). I get to see my boo Diplo headline TWO nights. I don't know if my heart can take it. Wish me luck.

A Lil Love Letter to Snapchat
If you follow me on SnapChat, you know my obsession with the app. Unlike any other social platform, Snap isn't about likes, comments, attention, or notoriety. It's about sharing moments, thoughts, experiences with people you choose. It's, for lack of a better word, intimate. You can send what you wish to a select few, or post to your story (while still choosing who views it). I love that no one else knows who follows me, who views my stuff, who I am engaging with, who's stuff I view, etc.
It is quick and easy, with no expectation of editing a moment or getting the perfect shot. Nothing is photoshopped, nothing is cropped. It is relaxed. It is organic.
In case you want to connect with me and see an insight into my daily life: @kateccoffey, just like on everything else.

“When I am putting looks together, I dare myself to make something work. I always look for the most interesting silhouette or something that’s a little off, but I have to figure it out. I have to make it me. I think that’s the thrill in fashion.”
I love Rih, but to me, that's not the thrill in fashion, but the thrill of style.
March Aesthetic... is early.
I'm a bold dresser. I have been forever. Well, since middle school when I ditched my polos and found a way to express myself through clothes. I like being on edge, unusual, more eccentric than most. Like the ladies above, I don't look for modern trends much, I follow how I feel that day, week, month.
Recently, I've been feeling a bit watered down. Not as fierce. Not as daring. I'm tired, and I don't put much effort into creating a persona for the day.
Here is a board of inspiration, a reminder: get back to mixing prints, weird color combos, fearless makeup, over-the-top accessories, bold nails, not just 1 at a time, but at once.
Mute dressers, what are you afraid of?
